Not Afraid

I thought you'd like to know I'm not afraid anymore.
I'm not that girl you tossed around,
the one who'd crumble to the floor and plead in fear.

Lately I've imagined tossing petals in the air.
You'd aim bullets at the pair
but they've grown backbones in their year
they're stamped with steel and pins

It's not to say
a quarter day
isn't spent lining dreams with barricades.
Metal gates on pillows
keep me from wandering astray,
it shouldn't have to be this way....

But I keep repeating lines one and two,
I'm ahead of me, ahead of you.
Just thought I should be telling you:
I'm not afraid.
